Audience
Managers who already read the Solution options hub (especially Operations & resources) and want a deeper view of open-shift rules. Staff: you normally only need Available shifts; if you are blocked, ask the office to confirm your grade, driver privilege, and documents.
Management → Solution options → Operations & resources → Open shift eligibility.
Your organisation saves these rules per region (the locale shown on the page). The system keeps one combined settings record for shift booking and eligibility for that region.
| Term | Plain meaning |
|---|---|
| Open shift | A duty that still needs someone assigned. |
| Duty type | The type of duty on the shift (free text). Rules match when this text contains a phrase you configured. |
| Designation | Extra wording on the shift (free text). Used for driver checks when your patterns appear inside it. |
| Clinical grade | The grade on the person’s profile. It must match spelling used in your rules and grade list. |
| Grade order | The order of grades from “lowest” to “highest” comes from your organisation’s clinical grade list (the same list used when editing people). Higher positions mean more senior for “minimum grade” rules. |
| Driver privilege | A yes/no flag on the person’s staff record meaning they are approved to drive in your operational sense. It is not the same as “I uploaded a licence photo” during recruitment. |
When the main switch is on, the system checks the person’s clinical grade against your duty type rules before:
Minimum grade rules (preferred): e.g. “If duty type contains Critical care, the person must be at least Paramedic.” Longer duty-type phrases are checked before shorter ones.
Allow-list rules (legacy style): e.g. “If duty type contains Event, only ECA, Technician may book.”
If someone has no grade on file, they can be blocked when a rule matches.
On the roster / clinical grid, SB clinical = No turns off clinical grade checks for that duty only, even when the region-wide switch is on. Use for genuine exceptions.
When the driver switch is on, and the shift’s designation contains one of your lines of text (patterns), the person must have Driver privilege = Yes on their profile.
Patterns are not case sensitive and match as contains (substring).
SB driver = No on a single shift turns off driver checks for that duty.
Reminder
If designation is left blank, driver rules will not run for that shift.
| Mode | Effect |
|---|---|
| Show all | Everyone still sees all open duties; blocking happens only when they try to book or apply. |
| Hide ineligible | People only see duties they are allowed to book under your rules. |
| Disabled | Self-service open shifts are turned off for the region; managers assign in rostering screens. |
Both must agree for a check to run:
